Sleep Study

A Home Sleep Test (HST) or attended overnight sleep study (polysomnogram/PSG) examines the activity of the body during sleep. These tests are performed to find the source of your sleep problems and help diagnose a range of sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea.

An at-home sleep test is an economical painless study that involves a breathing monitor worn while sleeping that records your breathing and assists in figuring out whether you are having trouble. A PSG is a more comprehensive test that monitors certain body functions while you sleep. The decision to have a HST versus PSG is based on several factors which may include if you have underlying comorbidities (other medical problems) or if a condition other than obstructive sleep apnea is suspected (e.g., central sleep apnea, parasomnia, movement disorder or narcolepsy). The experts at The Sleep Center of Northwest Georgia will review collected information and present the best possible treatment for you.

If you exhibit any of these symptoms below, it may be time for a sleep study so that you can start enjoying a more beneficial slumber for a healthier, happier you:

  • Snoring
  • Feeling fatigued or tired
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Large neck size
  • Overweight
  • High blood pressure
  • Atrial Fibrillation (irregular heart rhythm)
