Sleep Study

A Home Sleep Test (HST) or attended overnight sleep study (polysomnogram/PSG) examines the activity of the body during sleep. These tests are performed to find the source of your sleep problems and help diagnose a range of sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea.

An at-home sleep test is an economical painless study that involves a breathing monitor worn while sleeping that records your breathing and assists in figuring out whether you are having trouble. A PSG is a more comprehensive test that monitors certain body functions while you sleep. The decision to have a HST versus PSG is based on several factors which may include if you have underlying comorbidities (other medical problems) or if a condition other than obstructive sleep apnea is suspected (e.g., central sleep apnea, parasomnia, movement disorder or narcolepsy). The experts at The Sleep Center at Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine, P.C. will review collected information and present the best possible treatment for you.

If you exhibit any of these symptoms below, it may be time for a sleep study so that you can start enjoying a more beneficial slumber for a healthier, happier you:

  • Snoring
  • Feeling fatigued or tired
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Large neck size
  • Overweight
  • High blood pressure
  • Atrial Fibrillation (irregular heart rhythm)
